Description
As part of a facebook Public Domain Heroes group, I will be re-imagining some heroes from comicdom's (gone but not forgotten) Golden Age.
Lash Lightning (0riginally 'Flash Lightning')-
Shortly after his debut in 'Sure-Fire Comics' #1 (1940), his name was changed because of the DC character running around with a similarly "flashy" name. Robert Morgan received his power from an ancient Egyptian mystic called The Old Man of the Pyramids. He granted him "The Amulet of Annihilation" that he wears on his right arm. The Amulet grants him powers that include: super-strength, super-speed, flight, invulnerability, the ability to generate electricity, and radiate “lightning heat”. He gained a partner in the form of Lightning Girl in 1942.
Backlash (redux)-
For the Golden Age character Lash Lightning, I decided not to do a revision (per se) of the original, but to create a new character, called 'Backlash', to carry on his legacy. When Robert Morgan (who was once the hero Lash Lightning) died in a Nursing Home, he imparted the "Power of The Lightning' onto a young African-American orderly, who was present at the moment of his death.
Jamal Turner was unaware that he'd inherited the Lightning legacy. It laid dormant within him until Zambini the Mystic triggered the first spark of his abilities. As Backlash, Jamal can absorb and redirect various forms of energy. Electric energy, in particular, can be absorbed and converted into strength. The length of his power boost is directly related to the amount of electricity he absorbs. His body can generate a low-level electric field (that acts as a force-field) strong enough to withstand firearms. He wears a belt (designed by Mr. Avenger) that contains a limited supply of electricity that he can use, in the absence of any outside energy sources.

Weirdly, his origin really reminds me of the new American Crusader in Project Superpowers... though this predates that, so maybe Alex Ross took some influence from you. This guy's pretty cool
